Organo Se BTSAs Revolutionizing Chemist

Image
Organo-Se species represent a type of increasingly important core motif widely found in endogenous proteins and bioactive  small molecules . Consequently, exploring their structural diversity to entrust their powerful potential has emerged as an important endeavor in basic research, but it remains extremely limited and highly challenging. Here, we realize either racemic or  asymmetric synthesis  toward a class of organo-Se species, namely benzothiaselenazole-1-oxides (BTSAs), and reveal its diversified applications. For example, we identified that BTSAs can be recognized as the click selenylation reagents, which not only enabled on-plate modular construction of parallel (1,066 examples) and DNA-encoded (261 examples) indole-C 3 -selenide libraries but also provided the site-specific modification of sulfhydryl-containing chemicals for application in anti-COVID-19  drug discovery  and bioorthogonal labeling-based HER2 fluorescence imaging analysis. ...

Machine Learning in 3D DEM Revolution!

Image
The detection and resolution of contacts among irregular-shaped particles pose significant challenges in the discrete element method (DEM) and recent advancements have introduced a machine learning-enabled approach specifically tailored for contact detection and resolution in two dimensions. Building upon this progress, this paper extends the application of machine learning-enabled DEM to encompass the more complex and realistic three-dimensional (3D) scenario. Particles are modeled using a polyhedral representation with arbitrary shapes, and contact behavior is governed by an energy-conserving contact model based on contact volumes. The efficacy of the machine learning-enabled 3D DEM is evaluated through comparative analyses of computational time and simulation results across individual contact as well as whole DEM simulations against those obtained from the conventional DEM. Getting computers to do our bidding has always been a bit mysterious to those of us not steeped in machine code, operating systems, and programming. We were content, if that is the right word, to muddle through command-line interfaces (CLIs) and then GUIs (graphical user interfaces), the ones with the files and folders metaphor as our means of interacting with digital technologies. But two things have changed in ways that indicate the need for a broader cadre of leaders to engage with one another. It canโ€™t just be technologists any longer. One is the advent of machine-learning, a set of techniques developed in Artificial Intelligence (AI) that has vastly improved credit card fraud detection, for example. Farmers are now able to use automated farm vehicles to plough and sow using pinpoint-accurate GPS systems. The second change is the kind of decision-making we are willing to accord, or have accorded, our technologies. Should we allow our technologies to act on those decisions without h...

Fire at Paradise town depot brought under control

Image
A fire at the Paradise town depot has been brought under control. Smoke was seen billowing from a building in the area of the town hall around 4:20 p.m. Sunday. Town spokesperson Diane Keough said in a statement that a fire occurred in the depot area of the Paradise town hall. First responders arrived and brought the fire under control. Keough said that no one was in the town hall or depot during the fire and there are no injuries reported. The town asked residents to avoid the area for a time.
