India’s Cheapest Diesel Car To Get Global Technology?

Recently, Tata revealed the Curvv Petrol / Diesel model in all its glory. It is a feature packed SUV which will be launched on 2nd of September 2024. The Curvv will get three engine options – 1.2-litre turbo petrol, 1.2-litre TGDi, & 1.5-litre diesel engines. Interestingly, even the diesel engine will be mated to a DCA gearbox. Later, the Tata Motors website revealed the DCA option for the Nexon diesel as well. Having said that, will Tata Motors introduce this technology on India’s Cheapest Diesel Car?

Talking about India’s Cheapest Diesel Car, it is undoubtedly the Tata Altroz. In fact it is the only Non-SUV car under Rs 50 lakh to offer a diesel engine. The Altroz gets Nexon’s 1.5-litre diesel engine which produces 113bhp & 260Nm of peak torque. However, the brand introduced an all new Kryojet diesel engine with the Curvv which produces slightly more – 118bhp & 260Nm of torque. This engine will come with an option for DCA and will become the only SUV to offer this combination.

On the other hand, the Nexon is also speculated to get this unique engine-gearbox combination. So, will Tata Motors also introduce this technology with the Altroz? Currently, the Altroz diesel is available only with a manual transmission. The brand does not even offer an option of AMT with the Altroz diesel. But now if Curvv and even the Nexon will possibly get diesel DCA, the similar combination will possibly make its way to the Altroz diesel!

Apart from the diesel DCA, we are also expecting the Altroz to soon receive a major facelift. A couple of months back the brand launched Altroz Racer with a powerful engine and more features. These features were later added to the regular Altroz and now we might see a proper facelift. That said, it will be interesting to see if Tata Motors continues the new family SUV design on the hatchback. Rest, we can expect a major change to the exterior and the interior of the car. When will it launch? Well, it is too early to speculate but we can expect it to come anytime in 2025! And yes, do not forget that Tata Motors is also working on the electric version of the Altroz!
